Jovan Nikčević, PhD
Dr Jovan Nikčević is a construction and arbitration expert, with over 17 years of in-depth experience in both fields. His expertise in advising clients on complex investments and resolving international disputes is grounded in a robust academic background, including a Ph.D. (University of Belgrade) specializing in construction law and FIDIC General Conditions of Contract.
Dr Nikčević specializes in construction, infrastructure, and energy projects, focusing on those governed by FIDIC General Conditions of Contract. Before founding Nikčević & Kapor, he built his career at one of Southeastern Europe’s leading construction and engineering companies, where he served in key roles, including Contract Adviser, International Contract & Claim Manager and Chief Legal Officer. In these roles, he was instrumental in the successful negotiation, management, and completion of over 100 international construction projects across Europe, Asia, and Africa, including countries such as Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zambia.
Jovan has an equally significant footprint in arbitration. His extensive experience spans over international and domestic arbitration, where he has served as counsel, party-appointed arbitrator, sole arbitrator, and chairman in high-stakes disputes. Beyond arbitration, Jovan is highly experienced in Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) procedures and mediation, making him a versatile expert in dispute resolution.
Recognized for his expertise in arbitration, Jovan was appointed by the ICC World Council as a Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration for the 2024–2027 term.
Jovan is also deeply committed to advancing industry knowledge, regularly providing professional training on FIDIC contract interpretation. As a frequent speaker at international conferences and guest lecturer at law faculties, as well as a recurring contributor to specialized publications, he is a thought leader in both construction law and arbitration.
